Teguest Guerma

Teguest Guerma, an Ethiopian medical doctor specializing in public health and HIV/AIDS, has had a remarkable career in advancing healthcare in Africa and globally. As the Director General of the African Medical and Research Foundation, she has made significant contributions to healthcare initiatives since 2010. Prior to that, Guerma held influential positions at the World Health Organization, including Associate Director of the HIV/AIDS Department. She has worked extensively in Africa and Southeast Asia, advocating for African health issues, particularly HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria. Guerma played a key role in the establishment of the 3 by 5 Initiative, which aimed to provide life-saving antiretroviral treatment to three million people with HIV by the end of 2005, greatly improving access to treatment in resource-limited countries. Her academic background includes a Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne, along with postgraduate public health training at the University of Dakar and Johns Hopkins University.
